Artist Resources

Here are all the materials used in my projects. This list is subject to change as there is always something new! Most of the resources here pertain to crafting/sewing, but could potentially expand from it if I get into other mediums. Hope the links here help!

Programs

  • Paint Tool Sai 2 || For illustrating, drawing out embroidery designs, this is the main thing used.
  • Inkscape || Using Inkstitch add-on to program embroidery files for the embroidery machine to read. Can export to most, if not all embroidery formats. Free.
  • Aseprite || Fun little program for pixel art illustrations and animations. Costs $20, but can be purchased at a discount if you get it from Steam during a sale.

Fabric/Supplies

  • Big Z Fabric || Minky here is very affordable, not a huge selection yet, but you can purchase great quality basic colors at a cheaper price. Also has faux fur for fursuiting. Free shipping available(?)
  • Minky Boutique || I pretty much only use this if I can't find the color I need from Big Z. Great quality fabric with a huge selection but is a little pricey. I usually browse their remnants since those are discounted. I don't think there's free shipping available.
  • Howl Fabrics || Similar to Big Z! I've used them after I seen that they also offer minky. A lot of fursuiters use Howl for high quality faux fur, they offer a vast amount of different colors. I'll consider them a little more on the steeper end compared to everything else on this list. Shipping takes a little longer compared to the other options here.
  • JOANN Fabric || Rarely use but if I'm trying to save shipping costs, I'll look in-store to see if they have the color I need. Better alternative than Hobby Lobby.

Mourning the loss of fabric.com...

On October 20, 2022, dear old fabric.com was shut down and had to sell their products directly under Amazon. When I first started making plush art, I had little to no experience in buying minky fabric and fabric.com was the most affordable option at the time. This resource list was made to help other artists who are getting into sewing/crafting and provide options for where to purchase their supplies from.
